If we believe a person diagnosed with dementia is incapable…
We may become overly helpful, make decisions for them, and provide fewer opportunities.
If we believe a person diagnosed with dementia doesn’t know or understand…
We may treat them as invisible and stop engaging with them or pursuing a relationship.
If we believe a person diagnosed with dementia can’t learn…
We may not offer opportunities to try or do new things.
If we believe dementia takes away the ability to enjoy life…
We may focus on keeping people busy rather than helping them enjoy a meaningful, purposeful, and fulfilled life.
Our beliefs shape our actions—and our actions shape lives.
When we lead with assumptions, we limit potential.
But when we lead with understanding, respect, and compassion, we create opportunities for people living with dementia to thrive.
So, see the person, not the diagnosis…
And open the door to connection, purpose, and the life they still deserve to live.
