Paragon Assisted Living Locker, a licensed assisted living home in West Falls Church, Virginia, has been awarded the Memory Care Seal of Excellence by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP). The community joins the Memory Care Excellence Network (MCEN), a group of long-term care communities and home health and hospice organizations committed to best practices in dementia care.

A Residential Home in the Heart of Falls Church

Paragon Assisted Living Locker sits in the Mason Road neighborhood near the intersection of Graham Road and Annandale Road. Roundtree Park is less than a mile away, and INOVA Fairfax Hospital is about three miles from the home.

The Falls Church community welcomes up to eight residents in a warm, home-like setting. Its team brings a spirit of service to residents and their families, along with a commitment to learning more about dementia.

Dementia Education Across the Team

Team members at Paragon Assisted Living Locker have taken part in NCCDP’s Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care (ADDC) Seminar and earned Certified Dementia Practitioner® (CDP) Certification, an eligibility-based professional credential that recognizes specialized training in dementia care.

Falls Church team members shared practical takeaways they brought back to their daily work:

“The ADDC training helped me improve my job performance, learning new approaches and person-centered care; the workflows and better practices help me solve problems faster and work more efficiently with my residents.”

One team member also credited the instructor:

“The ADDC training was very helpful and informative. I learned, used new skills, and gained a better understanding of my responsibilities. The instructor explained the material clearly and provided useful examples. I enjoyed the training and will use what I learned in my daily work.”

Understanding Behavior and Communication

Residents living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias often express needs through behavior, which makes understanding those cues part of everyday care. Another team member described what they learned and how they use it with residents:

“The ADDC training helped me understand dementia, handle difficult behavior, keep the residents safe, and provide them with better personal care. It also helped me improve my communication skills, especially in dealing with them.”

What the Seal Means for Families

Families exploring assisted living in Falls Church and Fairfax County can ask the Paragon Assisted Living Locker team how their learning shapes daily care. The seal is a good place to start that conversation.

As an MCEN member, the home also gains access to new ideas and best practices shared among member communities. The team can draw on these resources as a resident’s needs change.
