Cedarhurst Senior Living Partners with NCCDP for Memory Care Education Initiative

Cedarhurst Senior Living is committed to creating senior living communities where each person feels loved, valued, supported and able to live life to the fullest.

In line with this mission, Cedarhurst has collaborated with NCCDP to certify all their managers in over 51 senior communities as Certified Dementia Practitioners (CDPs) for the Memory Care Education initiative.

To date, Cedarhurst has trained 130 Certified Dementia Practitioners.  There will be 200 more in May, and 60 more trained in June.  In all, Cedarhurst will have nearly 400 CDP trained staff by the end of the summer!

“Cedarhurst wanted to up their game in terms of Memory care to be a best-in-class memory care provider.” – Tara Powell

Tara Powell, Director of Education & Engagement for Cedarhurst, is one of 4 Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainers (CADDCT) that are rolling out the training to staff.  In addition to the CDP certification, Cedarhurst also has developed their own dementia training curriculum that has been approved by the Alzheimer’s Association.  Tara commented, “Cedarhurst wanted to up their game in terms of Memory care to be a best-in-class memory care provider.”
Even the sales team undergoes dementia training to guarantee that they engage with potential residents or long-term Cedarhurst inhabitants with empathy and understanding in every interaction.

“We are targeting all levels of care, not just Memory Care.  Assisted Living and Independent Living managers also receive training because seniors may be living with dementia in all levels of care.”

Launched in the fall of 2023, with the goal to train staff across its 51 communities within a year, Cedarhurst is setting a new standard in dementia care!
