Nevada Alzheimer’s and Dementia Training Requirements

Nevada mandates specific training for staff in facilities with Alzheimer’s Special Care Units to ensure comprehensive care for residents with dementia.

Training Requirements:

  • Initial Training: Direct care staff must complete at least eight hours of training within 30 days of hire.
  • Annual Training: Staff must complete an additional three hours of dementia-specific training annually.

Training Content:

  • Overview of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
  • Communication techniques tailored to individuals with cognitive impairments.
  • Managing challenging behaviors and promoting resident safety.
  • Techniques for engaging residents in meaningful activities.
